Cozumel Scuba Diving Holiday

Cozumel is Mexico's largest Caribbean island; and after Isla Angel de la Guarda & Isla Tiburon in the Sea of Cortez, it is Mexico's third largest island overall.

Cozumel covers 477km2 is an excellent, accessible and diverse dive location, renowned for clear waters sitting some 19km off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Its name is the Island of Swallows in the local Mayan language; and the dense monsoon forest dominated interior is punctured by at least 32 Mayan Ruins of various sizes, reflecting the island's importance in pre-European history. Today the island, a low limestone karstic formation, has much to offer in terms of wildlife and diverse habitats, but it is best known as a diving and beach destination.

Cozumel Coral Reef Diving

Divided from the mainland Yucatan by a deep channel, most of the island's dive sites on the relatively sheltered west coast (on the east the coast is rocky and almost undiveable due to rough sea conditions).  This is where this dive holiday is based, offering unlimited beach dives, as well as morning twin-tank boat-based dives, exploring the island's complex underwater environment of walls, sloping reefs, canyons and ridges. Diving is managed by highly experienced crew & dive guides at our partner 5-star PADI facility. Additional night time, wreck and twilight dives can be booked locally as you wish.

Currents along the coast bring rich nutrients into the 20 km channel between Cozumel and the mainland, encouraging a wide variety of marine life, both large and small. Toadfish, nurse sharks and lobsters, scorpion fish and octopus are among the wide variety of fishes inhabiting extensive coral formations. In slightly deeper waters, a wide range of pelagic fish can be seen cruising coral walls, with impressive tarpon, eagle rays and black-tip reef sharks often seen here. Many of the dive sites on Cozumel are included in Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park and as a company strongly committed to protecting the natural environment Aqua-Firma closely follows the sustainable diving practices.

These 3 - 7 night dive holidays are ideal as a getaway for those living in the Americas; or taken in combination with one of our other Mexican experiences, such as expert-led Whale Shark Research & Photography, Pure Cenotes Diving, or tailor-made Wildlife and Mayan adventures.

Transportation to and from Cozumel can be arranged in accordance to your needs, such as transfers starting and ending Cancun, Belize or elsewhere in Mexico.
