MS Expedition is small, strong and nimble expedition ship with a long polar pedigree. This quaint, much-loved expedition ship carries just 128 passengers and has been extensively refurbished throughout with new engines, upgraded common areas and refreshed cabins - while maintaining her cozy and comfortable atmosphere. She has class 1A technology, providing smooth, quiet sailing, alongside the upgraded stabilisers which have significantly reduced her carbon footprint.

Onboard there remains a traditional, nautical feel, both in the well-stocked library, wood panelled club room and the elegant dining area. After a day exploring off the ship, a multipurpose lounge and presentation room hosts inspiring evening lectures, group discussions or simply a place to relax at the end of day. The spacious observation and sun decks are fantastic vantage points along with the panoramic bridge to look out for Arctic or Antarctic wildlife. The two onboard bars provide the ideal setting for a leisurely chat, whilst there is also a convenient 24-hour beverage station a clinic, small gym and two Jacuzzis. An outdoor BBQ area may also be used subject to weather conditions.

Cabins

MS Expedition offers 10 different cabin categories including budget-friendly triple and twin cabins, while superior, deluxe and suite cabins offer more space and amenities for those seeking a higher standard of accommodation. All cabins are spacious outside cabins with a minimum of one porthole or window per cabin, and all offer en-suite bathroom facilities and ample storage space.

Onboard Expedition Team

The experienced onboard expedition team will offer a series of lectures, presentations and daily recaps, likely in the main lounge with large windows so you don’t miss out on the stunning views as you learn more about the polar regions. Lectures may cover polar wildlife species (e.g. polar bears), history, geology, glaciology and photography to personal stories of research trips that they have undertaken over their years of polar travel. The expedition team are friendly and accessible, either out on deck watching for wildlife; in the lounge in the evenings; and at mealtimes when they will join you in the Restaurant. On your final evening onboard your team will hold a final gathering to present a photo slideshow of your journey.

Onboard Dining

There is just one dining room on the ship which is used for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All 128 passengers are seated at the same time with a mix of smaller tables and larger family-style large tables so you can get to know many of your fellow passengers and members of your onboard Expedition Team. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, with a constantly changing menu with hot and cold options; dinner is usually plated table-service, but may be a buffet depending on your daily plan. Weather depending, you can hope to enjoy a BBQ out deck at least once during your voyage. The bar serves a range of reasonably priced beers, wines and spirits. There is a complimentary tea and coffee station in the bar which is available 24 hours a day (great for an early morning coffee out on deck before breakfast). 

Optional Adventure Activities

MS Expedition offers three optional adventure activities, these are not included as part of your voyage price and must be pre-booked to avoid disappointment. A voyage-length kayaking programme is offered in the Arctic and Antarctic; this activity offers a unique perspective on the polar regions with just the sound of the waves and your paddle as you explore calm bays, glacier fronts and stunning fjords. Camping is offered in Antarctica only; enjoy a night out on the ice under a (hopefully!) clear polar night, you will be provided with a tent or bivvy bag and warm sleeping bag for this memorable experience. Guided Photography is a new activity for the 2027 Antarctic season with just 6 participants and a dedicated photography guide; you will enjoy separate photography-focused expedition briefings, field coaching, tailored zodiac routes and shore landings to maximise photographic opportunities.

What is included onboard?

Your voyage will include all meals onboard as well as tea, coffee and drinking water. You will also receive a comfortable 3-in-1 polar expedition jacket (yours to keep) and loan of waterproof muck boots onboard. Other drinks including soft drinks, premium coffee and alcohol are not included, but can be ordered and charged to your onboard account. For voyages to Antarctica, a pre-voyage hotel night is included in Ushuaia (please ask us for details).
