Jericoacoara is a fishing village of surrounded by idyllic mangrove forests, lagoons and sand dunes. Declared an environmental protection area in the mid-80s, there have been many restrictions enforced to maintain the condition of Jericoacoara. Even street lighting is prohibited by law. Off the town’s stunning beaches, you can comfortably paddleboard for perspectives of the location from the turquoise waters and then retire to a beach-bound restaurant when you desire. The beach here is so attractive that Jericoacoara earned a place in the top 10 most beautiful beaches list by The Washington Post.
Remoteness is one of the town’s most notable characteristics with nearly an hour of the road from Fortaleza being across sand. Its establishment as an environmental protection area has been a considerable reason for this to be the case even now, but the town is still modern enough to have electricity, air-conditioning and hot showers in most buildings. You will also be able to find an array of bars, restaurants and craft shops.
