Buenos Aires

Situated in the vast estuary of the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires enjoys a humid and generally warm climate - sometimes rising to the high 30° C's in the Southern Summer. Combined with its colonial origins comes a distinctly Mediterranean sense of style and a real energy and dynamism that is uniquely Argentinean. A city of over 12 million people, Buenos Aires has more than enough to keep visitors exploring for a few days. Buenos Aires is also perfectly placed for a city extension to polar journeys with Aqua Firma - a colourful and lively start or endpoint that contrasts with the silence of Antarctica.

While in Buenos Aires, make the most of your journey with Aqua-Firma - our experts have worked extensively in the city and can arrange a wealth of cultural (and culinary) adventures! We can select a hotel to suit your budget and tastes, from Grand colonial central hotels to small boutique establishments. We often stay at a hotel in the park-filled, leafy Palermo district. Palermo is a perfectly placed starting point to explore the cities excellent cafés, sample world class Argentinean Wines and enjoy a tango performance at one of the city's famous 'Milongas' (and maybe learn some steps yourself!). If you're a carnivore give in to temptation and sample one of Buenos Aires famed steaks - generally considered to be best in the World, washed down with a fine Malbec. Puerto Madero is a great area to sample some of Buenos Aires finest restaurants and take a lovely waterfront evening stroll into the bargain!

You can follow 'the hand of God' and the footsteps of Maradona and head to a football match at one of the city's stadiums. The colourful Buenos Aires riverside districts of San Telmo and La Boca warrant some relaxed exploration (best with a guide to get the most out of the area), as are the cities diverse markets. The city also boasts some excellent museums including Museo de Bellas Artes and the Museo Evita for Eva Peron memorabilia. For the ultimate in high city culture, enjoy an opera at the gorgeous Teatro Colon - until 1973 the southern hemisphere's largest theatre!

Outside of Buenos Aires, Aqua-Firma can arrange a day trip or longer stay with the Southern Cowboys - the Gauchos, on a working Hacienda. This is a unique cultural experience on the vast Argentine pampas. You could even try your hand at cattle herding on horseback!
