The Maldives offers some of our Planet's best diving and marine life experiences. It is one of those rare locations that can feature thrilling reef dives, with spectacular pinnacles and channels; along with colourful reef fish and great potential for pelagic encounters including manta rays and a variety of sharks - including whale sharks, hammerheads, tiger sharks, thresher sharks and more.

Whilst you will never be able to dive all of the coral reefs of the Maldives in a lifetime, our dive liveaboard voyages can tap into some of the very best these atolls have to offer, spread as the islands are across 90,000km² of tropical ocean. That's an area the size of Portugal.

Coral bleaching is a global issue which the Maldives has not been able to escape. Reefs were most impacted by high sea temperatures in 2015 and 2016. Fortunately, conditions have enabled some recovery since then, but as a general rule, the deeper south you go the less bleaching you will find. Additionally, dive liveaboards can steer to locations where coral reefs are at their best; and take you to deeper sites and reefs exposed to currents which have kept corals healthier, since flow of water can significantly reduce temperature increases. Other than the corals, the sheer variety and abundance of marine life in the Maldives is fantastic with a huge diversity to be found here of both reef fish and pelagics.

Maldives liveaboard diving usually appeals to the more experienced diver, though we do offer some itineraries which are better for less-experienced divers who wish to visit this unique archipelago.
