Trip Reviews: Iceland

"The trip was brilliant, everything we hoped and more.

So many highlights, the two day trip to Hof was really memorable, via waterfalls, black sand beaches, seeing icebergs and a trip to the glacier and ice cave, we have some wonderful photos.  We were lucky with the weather and saw the diamond icebergs on the black sand beach at sunrise and have the most stunning photo to prove it.

The horse riding was with a small family riding establishment, and wow that was good too.  If anyone wants horse riding would thoroughly recommend, lovely well cared for suitable horses, really took care of safety and equipment and a knowledge guide.

The trips were all really really well run and the guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I learnt so much about Iceland.  They were also brilliant driving in some pretty poor conditions and from the number of tourist cars off the road in the conditions we were very happy to let the knowledgeable drivers drive so we could appreciate all the amazing scenery.  The weather was particularly bad on the golden circle trip, but the driver was unphased and we got to see sights off the beaten track as he knowledgeably and confidently drove the minibus to places other coaches could not go, so we got to see a couple of lovely waterfalls, one completely frozen and also a chance at the national park to walk along the path between the two tectonic plates.

The dog sledding was also amazing, again we were lucky with the weather.  A mix of brief blizzards but followed by great sunshine.  The dog sled team had some troubles with their kit, not their fault at all, but worked liked trojans to fix the problems so we could sled.  Really big thanks to them for that.

Your organisation and providing all the clear instructions and paperwork was great.

The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful.  Great to have the bar attached to the hotel, so on a late night we did not have to go too far for food.

Thanks Holly, really was a trip of a lifetime."

"Thank you so much for organising our fab holiday at such short notice! The weather was relatively kind to us and we even got a bit of a sun tan at the Blue Lagoon! It was a really good idea to put in the rafting as that was great fun but not too scary and gave an excellent opportunity to view all the amazing rock formations on the way down the river. Once again the geysers were fantastic.  The Glacier hike which was completely different from when Julie and I went 2 years ago - incredible how it all changes. The black beaches were obligingly monochrome when we went which was most atmospheric with the waves crashing down. And the waterfalls were as to be expected; magnificent!

So all in all we had a marvellous time, everything ran very smoothly. The guides and drivers we had were informative and good fun.

On our last day we took your suggestion and went on the food tour, it was brilliant. We were lucky with the weather that day too and just strolled around eating lots of local food in a variety of venues  with some interesting info about Reykjavik and Icelandic people and finishing up with a fantastic "designer" dessert.  The guy who ran it was lovely, very enthusiastic and it was all most informal and delightful!

Anyway, thanks so much for sorting this all for us.  We both loved it and it really was a special time and a great experience."

"Iceland was so much more beautiful than I ever expected it to be.

The whale watching was amazing. We spotted 2 humpbacks within 25 minutes, and stopped to watch them. They stayed around our boat for nearly two hours, they even came right up next to the boat! I have never seen anything more magnificent and those images will stay with me forever! Three more humpbacks made an appearance and also a pod of dolphins for a few minutes.

The dog sledging was also a lot of fun. The dogs were well looked after and the guy who took our sled obviously had a great friendship with his dogs, which was really lovely to see. It really exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to others.

Our guide was very nice and very easy to get along with. Nothing was too much trouble and his knowledge of Iceland was very good; especially of the volcanoes and the history of the landscape. He took us to some great spots, and knew all the best sights for viewing points and photos. The views across the Coast were so beautiful, especially the volcanic black ash beach at Dyrhólaey. We got there just in time for the sun to go down, even though it was a little cloudy, it was stunning.

We also managed to squeeze in a trip to the blue lagoons on Sunday morning before our flight, which was a very unique experience and really helped relax us and prepare us for our flight home.

Iceland really exceeded my expectations, and I am really considering trying to get back for a few days in the summer.

Thank you again for all of your help!"

"It was a FANTASTIC trip thank you - couldn't have asked for more. The kayaking was brilliant.

Firstly, thanks for the lovely note we were given when we got to the hotel after our kayaking. It was awesome to get back to such a welcoming place.

Secondly, the trip itself was phenomenal - fantastic guide, beautiful scenes (we saw a humpback whale very close to the boats), the best equipment (very useful with crazy winds), brilliant food.

Definitely some ups and downs but I wouldn't change a thing and the days were tailored to work for all of us :)

Thanks again for all your help planning / getting us there!"

"The holiday went very smoothly, thank you. The 3 Day Trip exploring the Golden Circle, South Coast & Ice Cave was definitely our favourite part. We were in a small group of eight and our guide was excellent both in his knowledge and passion for his country and also his good humour.

Ice caves were fab and my 80 year old mother was super proud of crawling her way into the depths with all the others. Very well organised. We loved the glacier walk and particular thanks to the guide there who took great care of my mum on the walk which again she managed with aplomb!

We made great use of our Aqua-Firma snoods - they were brilliant, thanks. Well done on turning a whist and bowls playing OAP into an extreme adventure junkie! She can't stop talking about the trip and all she achieved so that box is well and truly ticked. Many thanks."

"I had a lovely time - Nature is as you find it which is the best thing about it.

Iceland is a great place for a stress free break.  It is a happy country - the people appear to be very content with their lot and I admire their attention to the environment.  I would recommend this trip to anyone who like something more than the run of the mill.  The hotel was perfect, warm, clean, great position and super friendly helpful staff. I cannot fault any of it really!!"

"Just had to say we had a fantastic time in Iceland.  The trips you planned for us were enjoyable and exciting.  The waterfalls we saw were beautiful and truly special - partly frozen, with ice sprayed around the edges.  The hotel was nice and being central, very handy for having a wander in Reykjavik.  We would definitely think about going back again to Iceland and will also look at some of the other places Aqua-Firma organises trips.  Thanks again."

“Strytan is well worth mentioning to any divers going out to Greenland that what to hook on some dives in Iceland or just wanting to shore dive there.

The chimney is awesome, max depth 30m and then you slowly work your way up to the top of the stake at 15m, lots of life on it, more than a little interesting. The 2nd dive was a reef dive, max depth 23m, gzillans of really big wolf fish and the cod are so relaxed they'll bump you and get so close you can stroke them, large flat fish, a nice ray, not so many anemones but what were there were big.

The dive guide is lovely guy; very helpful and knowledgeable guide.”

"I had an absolutely amazing time. The kayaking trip was even better than I could have imagined and the guides were amazing! Thank you so much for all your help in getting everything booked, such an amazing tour. Couldn't have done it without your help. I'll be sure to contact you next time I head to Iceland ;-)

Thank you!"
