Part of the Raffles Hotels & Resorts family, which have been synonymous with luxury and glamour since 1887, this idyllic two-island resort is located in Gaafu Alifu (Huvadhu) Atoll; one of the world's most pristine and remote atolls near the southernmost reaches of the Maldives archipelago. It has been recognised as one of the best hotels in the Indian Ocean for its impeccable service and stunning beauty. Huvadhu Atoll is highly rated within the Maldives for healthy coral reefs. Experiencing the waters of Meradhoo Islands has been likened to swimming in an aquarium.
The resort is home to an excellent house reef with a dazzling parade of tropical fish and a resident population of 25 hawksbill turtles which you can hope to see by snorkel or on one of the regular turtle-watching expeditions. The resort’s Marine Butlers have been trained by the resident marine biologist to lead snorkel tours which enlighten this precious and beautiful ecosystem, as well as the challenges that it faces. Scuba diving can be arranged locally to explore further within the atoll, where highlights can include healthy coral gardens, channels and thilas to reveal colourful reef fish, eagle rays, large pelagic fish and sharks.

The resort is made up of two islands: the Main Island and the Overwater Island. The Beach Villas and Royal Residence are located on the Main Island, where you will also find the overwater Spa and Gym, main pool, garden jogging track and a soft white sand beach where the Thari and Firepit restaurants are situated. The Overwater Island is a short distance away and is home to the Overwater Villas and the Nikkei-inspired Yuzu restaurant and Yapa bar; both of which enjoy breathtaking sunset views.
Your Resort Butler can arrange a range of watersports including boat trips to uninhabited local islands, a private catamaran cruise around the island; an exhilarating jet ski excursion; or a sea-fishing adventure to a spot outside of the reef to try and catch your own dinner.
In an effort to preserve the environment and support local communities, the resort has implemented a number of eco-friendly initiatives including upholding a zero single-use plastic policy, sustainable fishing, growing produce in the kitchen garden and fundraising to support local schools. They have also installed an in-house water bottling plant which employs Reverse Osmosis technology to produce fresh, filtered drinking water from seawater served in refillable glass bottles. The resident marine biologist educates all staff members on how to preserve and protect the marine life and formally trains the Marine Butlers to guide snorkeling in the house reef and to share vital knowledge with guests. The villas and walkways are equipped with LED lighting, and they only use bamboo and paper straws. To reduce paper waste, iPads are used to share information and manage data.
