Maldives Dive Liveaboard Voyages: Deep South Atolls

These special voyages explore the tropical ocean wilderness of the Deep Southern atolls of the Maldives. Here you will dive around uninhabited islands, explore remote sites that few others visit; and hope to enjoy encounters with a stunning variety of marine life throughout the lagoons, channels and outer reefs.

Diving with Manta Rays on Maldives Dive Liveaboard Deep Southern Atolls

Heading south from Laamu and Huvadhoo atoll, we are quite likely to be the only divers enjoying remote and unnamed dive sites, amongst healthy coral reefs and exciting fish-filled channel dives with excellent chances for pelagic encounters including whale sharks, reef sharks, oceanic mantas and cleaning stations.

As we cross the Equator between Fuvahmulah and Addu Atolls, our chances of encountering larger species of predatory shark increases. Regular visitors and residents here include tiger sharks, hammerheads, leopard sharks, whale sharks and even thresher sharks. Addu is the most southerly atoll in the Maldives and is known as one of the few places where manta rays can usually be found year-round. Other highlights of the atoll include the 'shark hotel', named for the steady population of grey reef sharks that can normally be found here; and the British Loyalty wreck, which is the largest wreck in the Maldives and is now home to sharks, turtles, rays and a variety of reef fish.

Itinerary

Day 1: Embark in Laamu / Addu

You will embark this afternoon in Laamu or Addu.

You will need to take a domestic flight to your embarkation point from Malé today - or consider extending your time in the south at one of our carefully chosen island resorts before your liveaboard. There are now some international flights directly to Addu (Gan).

Days 2 - 7: Diving

You will spend these days diving around the remote atolls of Laamu, Huvadhoo, Fuvahmulah and Addu, crossing the equator as you head north or south as you explore some of the least visited dive sites in the Maldives.

You can expect to make up to 18 dives on a 7 night voyage.

Day 8: Disembark in Laamu / Addu

You will disembark in Laamu / Addu this morning.

From your disembarkation point, you will need to take a domestic flight back to Malé. From here you will make your way to the airport for your international flight or onward arrangements.

Why not consider extending your time in the Maldives at one of our carefully selected island resorts for more diving and snorkelling.

Please note: Every liveaboard voyage will be different, with actual islands and dive sites determined according to wind force and direction, ocean currents, visibility, reports of recent marine life sightings, safety and boat considerations taken by the captain and crew. Nothing can be guaranteed, including the number of dives you conduct or the species you might see, but rest assured that the captain and crew have everyone's diving interests in mind and will try to make your experience a very rewarding one amongst these stunning tropical atolls.
