National Geographic Venture

National Geographic Venture is one of the most immersive ways to explore Alaska by small ship, offering Zodiac-based excursions, kayaking past glaciers, and even the chance to spot brown bears from water-level. Built in 2018 with a design informed by over 50 years of expertise, she supports up to 100 guests and 52 crew members, offering one of the best crew-to-guest ratios in the region, ensuring excellent service throughout your journey. With her small size, she is nimble, purpose-built for off-the-beaten-path exploration.

The remote and less accessible regions which Venture will journey to are often home to world-renowned wildlife, marine life and wilderness, so there are many spaces onboard designed to make your immersion in these as great as possible.

Wildlife Observations & Open-Bridge Access

This is one of the most wildlife-focused small ship cruises in Alaska, with trained naturalists helping you spot iconic animals such as whales, otters, and bears.

A spacious bow viewing platform allows guests to spread out and enjoy over 180° views of the stunning environment ahead. A sundeck at the ship’s stern provides shelter and a relaxed space and comfortable seating for viewing scenery missed at the bow – perfect for when conditions are harsher.

These unmissable observation points are complemented by another unique part of the vessel – as an Open Bridge cruise ship, you will be able to get even more viewing angles from one of the ship’s most exciting vantage points. You will also be able to observe navigation in action and take the opportunity to chat with the captain and crew for an insight into the complex systems which steer this remarkable expedition ship.

Adventure Activities: Zodiac Excursions & Kayaking

One of the defining features of this Alaska expedition cruise vessel is its range of equipment. Journeys are propelled by twin boarding platforms which allow two boats to launch simultaneously, whether dropping you ashore to hike or cruising into glacier-carved fjords scattered with icebergs. These small boats offer access to places few travellers ever reach.

As part of some experiences offered here, you can kayak or use the paddleboards stocked to give you the freedom to glide through quiet coves and shallow channels at your own pace. These can take you even further than the zodiacs, helping you to explore waterways too narrow for them whilst still providing unforgettable memories like seeing marine life from water-level or coasting along riverbanks patrolled by brown bears. The Expedition Team will always be on-hand to guide you along the most interesting routes and ensure your safety as you explore.

Life Onboard: Comfort, Wellness & Learning

If you prefer a more relaxed experience, the ship offers many onboard facilities designed to keep you comfortable whilst still immersed in nature. Morning yoga and stretching classes in the early mornings at the stern’s sundeck let you unwind with fresh air and awe-inspiring views. The spa is also ready to treat you to a range of services including massages.

There is also a notable culinary experience, with locally inspired meals freshly prepared and served in the main dining room. Here, a single seating format and an informal atmosphere make for easy mingling with your peers and panoramic windows throughout the room add to its bright and relaxed atmosphere whilst ensuring that you don’t miss any views or wildlife during your meals.

Throughout the vessel, keeping connected with the outside world is woven into the design of every space. A beautifully furnished lounge with a full-service bar is one of the coziest places to be. It is also where the Expedition Team and Scientists onboard will deliver presentations and slideshows to inform you about upcoming excursions, iconic wildlife and photography advice ahead of the next day’s adventures.

National Geographic Venture is a dream ship for photographers, featuring an OM System Photo Gear Locker where guests can borrow pro-level cameras, lenses and hydrophones. With this equipment, you’ll be well-equipped to capture stunning shots of the wildlife and landscapes you encounter.

The library is a peaceful retreat for quiet reading where you are free to access all its literature on the animals, plants and natural history of the destinations on your itinerary.

But, if you prefer a little more action, the onboard fitness centre will provide you with the equipment and space you need to exercise in your own way.
