Mahé is home to more than 60 idyllic beaches, making it a great choice for anybody, from those wishing to simply relax and sunbath to those who are keen to take part in more adventurous activities.

Located just 5 km from Victoria lies one of Mahe's most popular resort beaches, Beau Vallon. Despite being comparably busier than other beaches on Mahé, Beau Vallon is considerably quieter than any found is the Mediterranean for instance.  The beach offers a beautiful 2 mile long sweeping bay of white sand and crystal clear waters.  It is an ideal area to swim and some areas are good to snorkel. There are no strong currents and few  underfoot rocks or coral.  The beach is very well serviced, with facilities such as boat hire, diving centre, restaurant, shop and even an on duty lifeguard.

During the months of August and September, upwelling currents bring in a large number of whale sharks, which are best seen in the subsequent month of October.  By November the waters are very clear and blue in colour, but lacking in fundamental nutrients, consequently, the whale sharks move on at this time.
