We love the atmosphere onboard the MS Santa Cruz II. She is the largest member of our Galapagos portfolio, with a capacity of 90 passengers which can bring advantages over smaller vessels in terms of space, facilities and onboard experts.
The ship has a touch of elegance but the atmosphere is still very much expedition with a focus on learning and exploration. Her layout is bright and spacious with tasteful Scandinavian-inspired décor and modern facilities, allowing guests to enjoy their Galapagos expedition-cruise in comfort and style.

Social Areas
The expedition lounge is the heart of the ship - a great focal point for like-minded guests to meet and socialise. With plenty of wide panoramic windows, this is the hub in which to spend time when not on landings or spotting wildlife from the deck. Here you feel that natural history is the main objective. The library deserves a special mention, teaming with inspirational books on every Galapagos subject, inviting you to grab a coffee or indulge in the (all-included) bar and curl up with a book on the nature -which is literally just a glance away.
This is also the area where the Science Corner sits, with Darwin inquisitively peering down at you from above; a learning zone featuring glass cabinets laden with rocks, eggs and bones, a lab desk set with Leica microscopes and an invitation to delve deeper. This ship excels at encouraging a deeper insight into the archipelago’s wonders.
Citizen Science
You also have the opportunity to join citizen science projects throughout your time. This fleet was one of the first to invest in such projects: where guests are invited to escort the onboard scientists in their work. You may for example assist with marine sampling to collect plankton: an astonishing array of bizarre looking species which are later viewed through microscope and screen. For more information on the citizen science and environmental opportunities read on: (coming soon...)
Cabins
Spread across three decks, 50 well-appointed cabins provide accommodation for up to 90 guests, each with en-suite bathroom, wide windows and safe. With nautical colours that evoke the ambience of being at sea, each is generous in size and offers a comfortable place to relax. Guests can choose between a choice of Explorer Cabins which vary in size and for a bit more comfort – a Darwin Suite. Cabins can be either twin or double layout. Family cabins and suites have a sofa bed (suitable for a child under 12 years of age). For a touch more indulgence, the Darwin Suites feature two large windows and considerably more space, complete with bathrobes and slippers and the option to interconnect with an Explorer Cabin if more space is needed.
Active Adventure options
One of the first things you notice when boarding the ship at its stern is a very exciting collection of equipment : masks and snorkels, lines of kayaks, sticks for hiking and paddleboards. This is the only ship which also offers glass bottom boat excursions for those less keen on adventure and immersion. Smaller ships can often have less adventure options at hand due to lack of space and qualified adventure crew.
Natural History Expertise & Guiding
All ships in our Galapagos portfolio have onboard guides who by law are trained by the Galapagos National Park. They are not fixed to the vessel, but independent of it . The ratio of 1 guide to 16 is maintained as passengers numbers rise. This can offer several advantages for larger ships - more guides- more specialised passions and local knowledge. In view of this your ships schedule offers daily mini lectures and recaps onboard the ship from a host of different experts.
Onboard Dining
Highly trained chefs utilize locally-sources organic food to prepare delicious meals onboard. Le Cordon Bleu chef provides a wide variety of dishes that encompass all diets and preferences.
Health
The onboard fitness room is equipped with yoga mats, free weights and a selection of cardio machines. Guests can unwind after a long day exploring: the Sky deck offers ample deck space and sun loungers for guest’s relaxation or in true Scandinavian style you can take in the views in one of the two hot tubs on deck .
All Inclusive
This all-inclusive vessel means you can switch off once onboard and truly relax. It includes all meals, from a buffet breakfast to a mouth-watering a la carte evening meal, plus house wine, beer and soft drinks. All gratuities, expert led landings and free use of the onboard sauna and hot tubs are available to enjoy freely.
