Whale Watching: Reykjavik

The whales which are most frequently seen on this trip include Minke whales, Humpback whales, Dolphins and Porpoises, although other species are also sometimes spotted, the majority of which will usually be seen within 15 km of the harbour.

Throughout the trip, knowledgeable guides will be on hand to answer questions and advise you on the best places to look for potential whale sightings, as well as to tell you about the various seabirds that you are likely to spot in and around Faxaflói Bay.  These guides will brief you fully before the trip about what to expect as well as to explaining about necessary safety procedures you will need to adhere to.

The quantity of whales you will see very much depends on the sea conditions and season.  Depending on the tide and sea the trip will start or end with a visit to either Akurey or Lundey Islands to watch the puffins (May 15th - August 15th).

When organising this trip, it is important that we be flexible, all bearing in mind the local sea conditions, weather and seasons and as such, no two whale watching trips are the same.

For your comfort and warmth, there will be special suits on board available to borrow during  the trip, however, we do advise that you to wear your warmest clothes (hats, scarves and gloves), as it can get very cold (even on the warmest of days) when the boat is cruising along.  Hot drinks and soup will also be available in the onboard cafe.

You have the choice of either sitting inside the boat to whale watch through the large windows, or alternatively get closer to action on the boat's deck.

To ensure that children are entertained throughout the trip, there is a designated children's area inside the boat where they can play.  The young ones can have fun playing with plush whales, puffin toys, coloring books and children's books on whales and sea birds in many languages.
