In 1984, Aride took on a team of professional scientists who have since been working as wardens as part of the longest continuous scientific monitoring programme in the Seychelles.  Since conception, these monitoring programmes have produced monthly reports and detailed scientific reports.  Consequently, there is now a multitude of data available, providing an insight into long term trends with implications that stretch beyond the island's shores.

For many years, Aride has encountered problems with introduced foreign species.  It is the largest island in the Seychelles ever to have been invaded by rats and is also the largest island to harbour no resident common mynas.  From time to time, introduced mynas and barn owls fly across the waters from other islands, presenting problems for Aride's native birdlife.  Consequently, it is sometimes vital to hunt down the mynas and barn owls in order to protect the island's native inhabitants.

In 1988, 29 warblers were introduced to Aride from Cousin and since then they have multiplied at a tremendous rate.  In 2007 there was estimated to be a total population of two thousand warblers on the island.

As a result of fantastic conservation efforts, there have been a number of very successful translocations of various endangered and endemic bird species.  One such example is the Seychelles warbler, which was brought to Aride from Cousin Island in 1988.  Subsequently, Aride now boasts the largest population of the species.  Further introductions have included the Seychelles fody from Cousin in 2002 and the Seychelles magpie robin from Frégate.  Interestingly, the Seychelles blue pigeon and the Seychelles sunbird have managed to re-colonise themselves on Aride naturally.
