The reserve is not just restricted to the land; the boundary also extends 200 metres offshore, consequently providing protection for the beautiful coral reefs and the marine life that resides within it. Following the destructive effects of the 1997/1998 coral bleaching, Aride's marine life has been gradually shown signs of recovery. In recent years, more than 400 species of fish including whale sharks and flying fish have been recorded surrounding the island.

Two species of marine turtle, green and Hawksbill are regularly reported for being seen nesting on Aride's beaches. Over the past few years, Aride has become one of the most fundamental breeding grounds for hawksbill turtles in the Western Indian Ocean.
The nesting season for the marine turtles is from November through to March, during which time they can regularly be seen scampering up the beach to make their nests amongst the vegetation. Sightings of the magnificent creatures are not restricted to this nesting period however, as they can be seen all year round below the water via snorkelling or diving.
