Cousine has an incredible diversity of wildlife, including five of the Seychelles endemic birds, namely the Seychelles magpie robin and the Seychelles brush warbler. Moreover, Cousine also harbours an incredible variety of endemic fauna and magnificent marine life.
When guests first set foot on the island, they can expect to be greeted by giant tortoises and curious skinks.

One significant problem that Cousine has endured in recent years is the presence of feral cats, which have previously been responsible for the extinction of several endemic species on other islands. At one point, the cat population on Cousine equated to three times the density that has been recorded on most other islands of the world. Since the successful eradication of cats from Cousine in 1986, wildlife populations have flourished. Cousine's experience demonstrates how destructive a cat population can be on a seabird island environment and how rapidly they can multiply. It is hoped that other island, not just in the Seychelles, but worldwide, will learn from Cousine's example and adapt more efficient eradication methods.
