Frégate boasts an abundance of interesting wildlife and is home to some 50 species of birds, including the rare Seychelles magpie robin.

Frégate is home to the world's only population of giant tenenbrionid beetles.  These unique creatures are an incredible example of the dinosaur age, spending the majority of their time crawling up tree trunks.  There are currently plans to re-implement past beetle monitoring programmes, which will include the monitoring of population distributions, which will later be compared to previous findings.

The island is also a popular habitat for a number of giant tortoises.  Many years of conservation efforts have contributed to vast increases in the population of Aldabra giant tortoises.  Fregate is now home the second largest population of wild tortoises in the world.
