Sulawesi Diving, Ecology & No-Touch Photography

This is the highlight of what we do and our focus is on a combined Diving, Ecology & No-Touch Photography experience.  This is a two location diving experience.  In the Bunaken Marine NP the highlight is the coral reefs surrounding a group of islands in the deep waters of the Celebes Sea .  Part of what you will learn here is why these reefs are so well preserved whilst so many others in have been severely damaged by reef bombing and cyanide fishing.  You will also have the chance here to dive on two types of reef repair systems: Ecoreefs and Reef Balls, to see how they work and how marine life has recolonised areas once damaged.

No-touch photography techniques are something we feel is extremely important in the age of cost effective housings for digital cameras.  Regrettably, with more recreational divers now owning underwater cameras, diver damage to coral reefs is on the increase as divers rest on corals to zoom in on photographic opportunities.  Bunaken and Lembeh are some of the best underwater photography locations you will visit, which is why this is a particular good place to run a course of this kind - a hands-on approach to hands-off photography

Here is a summary of our Diving, Ecology & No-Touch Photography experience:

Day 1

Arrive in Manado where you will be met upon arrival and taken to your hotel.

Day 2

Up to three boat based leisure dives today in the Bunaken Marine National Park – a chance to get to know the area and enjoy the stunning coral reefs you can find here.

Day 3

A focus on the Marine Ecology of the Buanken Marine National Park and the quite different Lembeh Straits which you will visit later on.  Although the coral reefs in this area are largely in excellent condition, there are some areas which have been damaged by dynamite fishing.  In addition to further dives in the marine park, you will over the course of today and tomorrow be taken to see two different forms of coral reef regeneration programmes: one based around EcoReefs and the other using ReefBalls.

Day 4

Mainly leisure diving in the Bunaken M.P.

After diving today you will be transferred overland to the Lembeh Straits.
