Rafting the Source of the Amazon - Rio Apurimac

The Rio Apurimac is one of the top ten rafting rivers in the World and the best short rafting trip in Peru - incredible rapids, spectacular scenery, pristine river beaches and rare wildlife. Rafting the Apurimac canyon is a total wilderness adventure through an impressive 3,000m deep canyon including world class grade four rapids.   This is one of the most exhilarating adventures you can hope to have in Peru.

Draft Itinerary

Day 1  spectacular 5-hour drive to the river, a full safety talk then head off into the canyon in search of adventure. (L/D)

Days 2-3  " Apu - rimac ", in Quechua, signifies " The Great Speaker " - Inca nobility and priests would often ' consult ' the river on route to the city of Cusco. We tackle fun rapids, the odd unrunnable fall, and marvel at the awesome sheer-sided canyon down which we are travelling.  Quieter sections of river provide the opportunity to marvel at some spectacular Andean scenery.  At night you will camp on beautiful sandy river beaches. Andean foxes, otters and pumas have all been sighted on the banks of the river. (B/L/D)

Day 4  Finally we reach a break in the canyon walls and from here it is a short bus journey back to Cusco for a party to celebrate your trip down the mighty Rio Apurimac. (B / L)

No previous rafting experience is necessary as full instruction and safety talk is given to all crews. Reasonable fitness is advised and an ability to swim is essential.  You will be well looked after with excellent food and fully catered camping.
