Denis offers some truly fantastic nature trails, all of which present an abundance of fascinating wildlife.  A complete walk around the island's inland trails would take around 1 ½ - 2 hours and would present an array for interesting sites, including the Bird Information Centre, location of the Sooty Tern Project and the farm.  During a typical nature walk, one can expect to encounter Seychelles warblers, Seychelles blue pigeons and Seychelles fodies.  Furthermore, Denis is one of the few islands in the Seychelles where the rare magpie robin and paradise flycatcher can be seen.  Meanwhile, a walk around the coast would take approximately 3 hours.

Among the different turtle species to be found in and around the waters of Denis are hawksbill, green and on the rare occasion, the loggerhead and leatherback.  Nesting tends to occur on Dennis all year round, with two peaks, the first from January to April and the second from July to September.  Some females have been reported to have come up to the beach several times to lay up to eight clutches of eggs during one nesting season.  Some visitors can be lucky enough to witness first hand these amazing creatures coming up the beach in search of the ideal nesting spot.  So whether you are just a picnicker, a hiker or simply lazing in the sun, it is worth keeping an eye out for turtle tacks and keep your ears pricked for the sounds of sand being thrown around the beach   Active monitoring of the turtles during the nesting season allows the island rangers to keep track of favoured nesting spots, the quantity of nests and breeding patterns.  The combination of its ongoing monitoring projects and the lack of exploitation mean that Denis Island provides a very valuable nesting site for turtles.

Visitors to the island can partake in expert led nature walks or take a stroll around the giant tortoise colony.  The oldest resident giant tortoise is around 150 years old!  Alternatively, visitors can witness how the island uses timber of fallen trees to make furniture in Denis's very own workshop.
